  13. Who Needs this WinFax PRO 4.0 Patch
  14. ===================================
  15. Only users running the March 20, 1994 release of WinFax PRO should 
  16. run this patch. See the About dialog in WinFax PRO for the program 
  17. release date.

  19. The enclosed patch updates WinFax PRO 4.0 to include the following:
  20.  
  21. -  Remote Retrieval capability - If you have a Class 1 fax/modem, 
  22.    you can poll remote fax devices to retrieve faxes. For example, 
  23.    connect to a fax information service to obtain up-to-the-minute 
  24.    international weather forecasts. You can also poll your computer
  25.    from remote locations to retrieve faxes from your WinFax
  26.    Receive Log folder. Password and Calling Station Identifier (CSID) 
  27.    checks ensure the security of polling.
  28.  
  29. -  Fax MailBox capability - When you subscribe to the Fax MailBox
  30.    service, you get a unique, private telephone number to deposit 
  31.    or retrieve faxes and voice messages. You can call into this 
  32.    service from WinFax and receive the faxes directly into your
  33.    WinFax Log.

  38. You should have the following update files:

  40.    README.1ST   (this document - instructions for updating)
  41.    WINPATCH.EXE (executable program to run the patch from Windows)
  42.    DOSPATCH.BAT (batch file to run the patch from DOS) 
  43.    PATCHER.EXE  (executable program that creates the patch from DOS)
  44.    ENABLE.RTP   (contains file difference information for patching)
  45.    ENABLE.PIF   (program information file)

  47. When you run the patch the following WinFax PRO 4.0 files are updated:

  49.    faxmng.exe
  50.    wfxmod.exe
  51.    wfxmod1.exe
  52.    modems.dat
  53.    wfxdlg.dll
  54.    winfax.hlp
  55.  
  56. Note:  When you update WinFax PRO using the patch, the program 
  57.        release date in the About dialog changes to April 15, 1994 
  58.        and the Class1/Class2/Sendfax/WP date changes to 
  59.        April 15, 1994. The Viewer date remains March 20, 1994.

  62. How to Update WinFax PRO 4.0 from DOS Using DOSPATCH.BAT
  63. ========================================================

  65. Do the following to update WinFax PRO 4.0 from DOS.
  66.  
  67. Note:  Be sure to EXIT completely from Windows before running the
  68.        patch files. DO NOT run the patch under a DOS session.
  69.  
  70. 1.  Store the update files on a disk or on your hard disk,
  71.     preferably in a separate directory.
  72.  
  73. 2.  Run the patch program from within the directory where the 
  74.     patch files are stored.
  75.  
  76.           DOSPATCH {WinFax directory} 
  77.  
  78.     For example, if WinFax 4.0 is located in C:\WINFAX, run the
  79.     following to update the program to include Remote Retrieval and 
  80.     Fax MailBox capabilities.

  85. How to Update WinFax PRO 4.0 from Windows Using WINPATCH.EXE
  86. ============================================================

  88. Do the following to update WinFax PRO 4.0 from Windows.
  89.  
  90. 1. Store the update files on a disk or on your hard disk.
  91.  
  92. 2. Start Windows.
  93.  
  94. 3. If you have the files on a disk, insert the disk into 
  95.    the "A" drive. (If the external drive you are using is a letter 
  96.    other than "A", substitute that letter for "A".)
  97.  
  98. 4. From the Program Manager File menu, select Run.
  99.  
  100. 5. In the Run dialog, type the following command line reflecting the 
  101.    location where you stored the update files, for example ...
  102.  
  103.     A:\WINPATCH
  104.  
  105.    ... then click OK.
  106.  
  107. 6. In the dialog that appears, click Continue to update WinFax PRO 4.0.
  108.    Your software is automatically updated to include Remote Retrieval and 
  109.    Fax MailBox capabilities.
